James is a commercial film producer and photographer, usually under the title of creative director or producer. Brett works in advertising and has a history of television, advertising, videography and wedding photography under his belt. His specialties are in the area of communication and strategy, as well as business development and assisting committees. He has an education in cultural studies. He is also a film buff and dissect every frame he sees on TV or digital media.
Marc is OSIF's past President is continuing on the board to mentor and coach the new members. His previous experience was as an animator in Toronto for 3 years, following a move to BC he worked on a web-series doing all roles, including a set dresser on a feature film, started his own business doing VFX and animation for local productions.Most recently he has been a Camera Operator for a local reality TV show, as well as continuing doing editing, visual effects and on-set digital imaging technician.
Kelly is an entrepreneur and owner of The Film Factory, a media production house, equipment rental house and studio in Kelowna, BC. He has worked on countless feature film productions in the camera department, working with stars such as Nic Cage, Wesley Snipes, Christopher Lloyd, and Richard Dreyfuss to name a few. As well, Kelly has directed, produced and shot many of his own short films, web-series, and commercial videos over the past 15+ years. Kelly is a past OSIF President, and has been serving on the OSIF Board of Directors for over 13 years.
Erin is an Award-winning screenwriter and producer. She began her writing career in 1990 where she worked at the Rogers Cable Studios in Richmond, B.C. She researched, wrote, hosted, filmed, edited and later produced several programs for the station. She spent five years honing her skills, during which time she began her studies in the Journalism Program at B.C.I.T, and then went on to work at BCTV, where she used her writing skills to assist in copywriting and pre-production research.
In 2006, she was the producer of the first award ever handed out for best Public Service Announcement of the year through Women In Film Vancouver. In 2007, Erin finished her first two docs, Million Dollar Hunch and Hope's Gift. The start of 2011, Erin returned to radio and co-hosted the popular Friday drive time show on AM650 The Broad Perspective. In 2017, her script Lemon Yellow World, did well in the festival circuit: Best Feature Screenplay at the Manchester Screenplay and Shorts Competition 2017, Best Feature Screenplay for the Festigious Los Angeles Film Festival (August 2017), Semi-finalist for the Los Angeles Cine Festival, Finalist for the Monthly Film Festival, Quarter finalist for the Script & Storyboard Showcase in Los Angeles, Official Selection of the Finish Line Screenplay Competition in Los Angeles. Erin currently has five of her scripts in Production (The Color Rose, To Avenge, Into The Woods, Slip Into Darkness, and The Legend Of Mary Fields) and is finishing up her third Feature length documentary ‘9 Questions’.
BOARD MEMBER AT LARGE—Jordan Powers
Jordan is a Kelowna local with a passion for filmmaking and music. He currently works at the Film Factory as a Videographer and Facility Manager, managing client work, facility bookings and gear rentals. He has worked as a 2nd AC on commercials and three Minds Eye Entertainment films here in the Okanagan. He is a returning OSIF Board Member and has helped organize events such as IndieFest.
BOARD MEMBER AT LARGE—MATT SHAY
Matt Shay provides a fresh perspective on the Okanagan region as a newly arrived resident. Coming from Nova Scotia, Matt is able to offer insight on topics coming from a blank slate perspective, absent of biases or prejudices to the region.
He is a film enthusiast and enjoys creating original works of varying lengths, formats, and stories. Most commonly, Matt's work and collaborated efforts have been comedy focused - often with a twist of edge. His collaborative short film titled “FiGURES” won the Crowd Choice Award at GRIFF (Halifax, NS). Other works include collaborations on “Head Space” (48 Hour Film Fest), “Shot”, “Surrounded”, “Bird Boxing” (mockumentary style short film), the “Caesura” series of short films, and a number of music videos for Rain Over St. Ambrose (Yarmouth, NS band).
His passions lie in idea-based creative collaboration and writing. He has an educational background in Marketing, and 10+ years applying marketing expertise and skill sets. Matt is the CEO & Operating Owner of Amarok Media Co., a media and content creation company based in Kelowna. Matt is also Communications & Events Lead for PacificSport Okanagan, and works toward strengthening the sporting community within the Okanagan region.
